This itinerary has been curated for 4-8 guests.
Day 1 · Kuala Lumpur — Selamat Datang (Tuesday, 6 October 2026)
Selamat Datang, welcome to Malaysia! As you arrive in Kuala Lumpur, we’ll take care of everything from the moment you land. You’ll have the option of a private car or the VIP train service to the city.
The VIP train service grants access to a quiet, crowd-free section of the train, personalized luggage assistance throughout the journey, and a chauffeur waiting at the city station to drive you straight to the hotel. It’s a seamless transition from the airport’s runway to the city center. And if your arrival is during daylight hours, the scenic rail route lined with palm trees is one you won’t want to miss.
For those who arrive early, we’ll decompress with a complimentary lunch in a tranquil garden setting near the iconic Twin Towers.
In the late afternoon, settle into your room – where you can continue admiring the Twin Towers from coziness of your bed.
The tour officially kicks off at dinner time. Our first dinner together is a relaxed way to begin — a chance to eat well, ask questions, and get to know one another after arrival. Over vibrant vegan dishes and easy conversation, we’ll settle in and begin getting to know one another.
Meals included: Lunch, Dinner
Day 2 · Highlands — Feast with a View & Nature Retreat (Wednesday, 7 October 2026)
After a restful morning to recover from jet lag, we’ll ease into the day with brunch. Get your bellies ready for a culinary adventure as we feast on a dim sum spread alongside an array of dishes from both Peninsular and Eastern (Borneo) Malaysia, plus other regional favorites.
We’ll then make our way into the highlands, passing small towns, fruit orchards, and stretches of rainforest along the curvy road upwards. Our stay is at an eco-lodge located on a campsite, where each guest or couple will have a private room with a comfortable bed, a hot shower, and electricity — offering comfort in nature.
After settling in, we’ll gather for a regional fruit tasting and a vegan hot pot feast with views over the hills. We’ll then dive into a hands-on introduction to traditional Malaysian games. Spend the late afternoon however you like: keep the games going, try some karaoke, or simply enjoy the stillness.
As evening arrives and if the weather allows, we’ll close the night around a campfire with a plant-based barbecue. If it rains, the barbecue continues indoors in the same warm spirit. Whether you stay up stargazing or retreat early with a full belly, this night is yours.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 3 · From Highlands to Penang — A Rail Journey Through Malaysia (Thursday, 8 October 2026)
Rise and shine from the highlands. If the morning sky is clear, those who wake early will be rewarded with one of the most memorable sunrises in Malaysia, with soft light spilling over rolling hills and layers of mist. For those who’d rather keep snoozing, we won’t judge. After breakfast at our eco-lodge and one last breath of mountain air, we’ll make our way back to Kuala Lumpur’s train station to begin a scenic rail journey north.
Prepare to experience Malaysia’s modern electric train, with premium seating and large windows to enjoy the striking views. As the train moves through the country, you’ll watch Malaysia unfold through your window in observation-style rotating seats while enjoying local delicacies from a tiffin: rural kampungs, limestone cliffs, and rice paddies. This is a rare chance to slow down and take in the changing Malaysian landscapes.
Once we arrive in the state of Penang, we’ll board our private transfer and cross the iconic bridge to Penang Island, celebrated as Malaysia’s food capital and home to its highest concentration of vegan cuisine.
After, get settled into your colonial heritage hotel: your home in Georgetown for the next four nights. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Georgetown is the heart of Penang’s cultural story, where every turn offers something to taste or discover.
As evening settles, we’ll gather for a Malaysian fusion dinner crafted with locally sourced ingredients, where culinary tradition meets vegan innovation. This is just the first taste of why Penang draws food lovers from around the world.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 4 · Penang — Where Art and Multicultural Influence Meet Island Flavors (Friday, 9 October 2026)
Today we’ll dive into Penang’s diverse cuisines while actively engaging with the island’s vibrant art culture.
We’ll begin in the UNESCO Heritage Zone, where murals come to life on every corner. Here, you’ll take part in a tactile street art workshop, working directly with the materials and techniques used by local artists to understand how these iconic pieces are created. Along the way, you’ll also gain insight into how Penang’s historic shophouses are preserved, from their striking doors to the architectural details that define the streetscape.
Next, we’ll head to Little India, where we’ll enter a Hindu temple, browse a spice shop, and sample bites from local vendors, experiencing the neighborhood through taste, scent, and ritual.
We’ll then continue into Peranakan culture and architecture before sitting down for lunch centered on Nyonya cuisine. This meal highlights a fusion of Chinese and Malay culinary traditions, known for vibrant colors, fragrant spices, and depth of flavor: featuring several of Penang’s most iconic dishes prepared vegan for our table.
In the afternoon, we’ll continue engaging with Penang’s street art scene, moving through colorful streets alongside an art-focused guide who helps decode the stories, symbols, and techniques behind the works we encounter.
That evening, we’ll settle into Penang’s celebrated street food scene in a relaxed restaurant setting, savoring bold flavors and local favorites made vegan for our group. Bellies ready.
As night falls, we’ll wind down as Penang begins its transformation for festival season.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 5 · Penang — Lively Markets, Vegan Traditional Art & the Start of Malaysia’s Plant-Based Festival Season (Saturday, 10 October 2026)
To start the day, we’ll take a break from the city streets and settle into a beautiful colonial house for a vegan batik painting workshop. We’ll learn and partake in vegan-friendly traditional forms of printing on fabric in Malaysia while enjoying a sweet and savory Southeast Asian afternoon tea.
After creating your batik art piece to take home, we’ll continue the day at one of Penang’s lively island markets. From sampling vegan street bites and discovering handmade goods to listening to live music and watching artists paint on the spot, there’s no shortage of creativity to explore. We’ll be sure to stop by one of the tucked-away shops to try coffee infused with regional flavors.
Lunch follows with a spread of Malaysia’s classics. From Chinese–Malaysian and ethnic Malay dishes to beloved mamak-style eats, lunch has been reimagined in vibrant vegan form for us to savor.
By late afternoon, Penang begins to transform. The Nine Emperor Gods Festival is a sacred Taoist celebration that occurs only once a year during the 9th Lunar Month, filling the streets with altars, incense, chanting, lanterns, and rows of temple stalls serving exclusively plant-based food. This isn’t a food market — it is devotion expressed through meals, offered in honor of purification and renewal. Here, you’ll visit a temple and witness how spiritual practice and vegan cuisine intersect in one of Southeast Asia’s most unique cultural events.
To close the evening, those who wish can join us for live music. From the sounds of drums, pianos, and vocalists echoing through the streets, let’s celebrate the island’s festive weekend music scene. It’s the perfect way to end the day surrounded by art, sound, and community.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 6 · Penang — Inside the Nine Emperor Gods Festival (Sunday, 11 October 2026)
On our final morning in Penang, for guests interested in another slow form hands-on arts experience will have the opportunity to participate in a pottery class. Enjoy the next few hours as you morph your new art piece in your hands. If you decide to sleep in, or explore on your own, we won’t judge. For those opting in for free time, stroll through lantern-lined streets, visit art workshops of your choice, find live music, or simply sit with a bowl of festival noodles and take it all in. Whether you’re immersing yourself in Penang’s culture or choosing quiet, this is your moment to experience Penang at your own pace.
For those that have joined us for pottery or for those that wish to join later, we will then have a delicious multi-cultural Asian spread and then visit another of Penang’s creative spaces. We’ll join in a retro music cafe that doesn’t have a drink menu, and you’ll be served a mysterious (non-alcoholic) drink based on your mood and preferred flavor profile. Enjoy the artistic energy of Penang while selecting a vinyl to play out loud and jam to.
As the afternoon comes to an end, we will continue exploring the Nine Emperor Gods Festival. This time we will make a trip to the mainland side of Penang to deepen our understanding of the Nine Emperor Gods Festival at a temple, learning how symbolism, ritual, and food come together during this sacred period. Rather than observing from a distance, this is a chance to understand the meaning behind what we’ve tasted and witnessed.
For dinner, we’ll enjoy traditional vegan dishes prepared at the festival grounds specifically for this time of purification and renewal. Some of the food you will encounter are recipes served only during the ninth lunar month, created as acts of devotion.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 7 · Langkawi — Mangroves, Snorkeling & Sunset Multi-Course Dining (Monday, 12 October 2026)
It’s time to say goodbye to Penang Island as we journey onward to a new region of Malaysia. We’ll take a short flight* to Langkawi, an island in the state of Kedah known for its green mountains, rice paddies, and scattered archipelago of small islands.
Our stay is nestled in the jungle, where mornings begin with the sounds of birds and the occasional monkey overhead. From the open-air spaces of the property, you’ll catch glimpses of the sea through a canopy of trees. This is a quiet contrast to the streets we’ve just left behind.
After checking in, we’ll gather for a private vegan buffet catered for our group before setting off on a private tour through the mangroves of Langkawi’s UNESCO Global Geopark. Designed with ethics in mind, our route skips fish farms in favor of ecological wonders: ancient rock formations, twisting waterways, and the rich biodiversity that lives between land and sea. Keep your eyes peeled as we’ll try to spot some animal resident – from eagles to otters. A snorkeling stop at one of the outer islands offers a chance to drift among coral reefs, a sea cave, and marine life.
As the sun sets, we’ll return to land and slow the pace with a multi-course dinner overlooking the islands at dusk — a gentle beginning to our island retreat.
*With ferry service currently paused from Penang Island, we will travel by short domestic flight.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 8 · Langkawi — 99 Islands, Kampung Life & Sea Retreat (Tuesday, 13 October 2026)
Good morning from the jungle. Breakfast comes with sea views, a canopy of trees, and the chance of monkeys passing overhead. Allow nature to ease you into the day.
Afterward, we’ll ride one of the steepest cable cars in the world, gliding over the Machinchang Geoforest Park for sweeping views of Langkawi’s UNESCO Global Geopark. Midway, we’ll step off onto the sky bridge, suspended between sea and sky, to take in the full span of the archipelago.
Next, we’ll continue on to a kampung, where music, archery, and handmade vegan snacks offer a window into island village life. Lunch follows at a small family-run warung, thoughtfully prepared in full vegan form as a gesture of welcome.
We’ll continue exploring the island by visiting a local rice paddy and learn how a grain becomes a Malaysian staple.
In the late afternoon, we’ll slow the pace with a yoga and sound healing session near the sea. It’s a moment to reset, with waves in the background and meditation guided by xylophones, flutes, or even angelic vocals.
To end the night, we will have a traditional Malaysian communal dinner (hidang), where multiple vegan dishes are served family-style to be shared by the group.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 9 · Langkawi — From Soil to Soul: Cooking Malaysian Classics (Wednesday, 14 October 2026)
After breakfast, the morning is yours. Relax with a book, chase one more waterfall, snorkel in quiet waters, or spend a final hour at the spa. Langkawi invites slow choices. There is no rush on your last island morning.
In the afternoon, we’ll walk through a herb garden and pause for a tea tasting, a reminder that flavor and tradition often begin in the soil.
Our culinary journey continues with a hands-on vegan cooking class, using regional ingredients to create the meal we’ll share for lunch.
Later in the afternoon, we’ll meet once more in an open-air pavilion overlooking the sea. This final yoga and sound healing session is a chance to pause, breathe, and let the past days gently settle, a soft close before our farewell.
That evening, we’ll have one final vegan hidang overlooking the water, one final meal together before we say goodbye to Malaysia.
Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 10 · Langkawi — Until Next Time (Thursday, 15 October 2026)
For those who are awake and would like to destress, participate in one last morning yoga session at our accommodation under a jungle canopy.
Enjoy a final breakfast at the hotel and take in your last views of Langkawi’s sea and jungle. When it’s time, your airport transfer will be arranged for departure.

This is not a standard “see Malaysia by bus” itinerary. It’s a privately designed journey built through local partnerships and custom coordination.
Many experiences are arranged exclusively for our group by offering access, depth, and cultural activities most travellers don’t experience.
- Private vegan mangrove & snorkeling experience (not available on standard tours)
- Custom-developed vegan batik workshop methods and afternoon tea with local artisans
- Private Malaysian vegan cooking class curated exclusively for our group
- Direct access to artists and cultural guides in Penang
- Pre-arranged highlands retreat with vegan hotpot & BBQ
- Private yoga & sound healing sessions by the sea
- Guided Nine Emperor Gods Festival experiences with culturally knowledgeable local guides (Vegan Festival)
This small-group experience explores Malaysia through its diverse communities, regional cuisines, and longstanding plant-forward practices. Traveling across Kuala Lumpur, the highlands, Penang, and Langkawi, you’ll engage with local cultures, visit kampungs, and experience how food, history, and daily life are deeply connected. Shared meals, hands-on workshops, and slow travel create space for connection – with place, culture, and fellow travellers.
A highlight of the journey is the Nine Emperor Gods Festival (Vegetarian Festival) — one of the world’s largest annual plant-based celebrations. During this sacred period, Penang transforms with temple rituals, lantern-lit streets, and exclusively vegan festival food, offering a rare opportunity to witness how spirituality and plant-based cuisine intersect. To experience a taste of both worlds, we will experience the festival both on the island and mainland sides of Penang.
We travel between mainland destinations by rail, including a reserved carriage on Malaysia’s ETS electric train service for our group, allowing for spacious seating and relaxed dining as palm trees, rice paddies, and limestone landscapes pass by. The itinerary also includes hands-on cultural experiences such as a traditional batik workshop using vegan-friendly methods still practiced today.
The journey concludes with island time in Langkawi, featuring a vegan-friendly mangrove tour, beach time, a scenic cable car ride, and optional yoga and sound healing – a calm and restorative close to an immersive cultural experience.
All meals and activities are included unless otherwise noted.
